Sermorelin Benefits: More Energy, Deeper Sleep & Faster Recovery

Sermorelin signals your pituitary to release its own growth hormone. Patients commonly report the following changes over a course of therapy. Individual results vary.

01

Deeper Sleep

GH is predominantly released during deep sleep stages. Improved sleep quality is the change patients most commonly report first.

02

All-Day Energy

Patients commonly report steadier daytime energy as their natural GH rhythm is supported.

03

Body Composition

Patients commonly report reduced body fat with consistent use alongside diet and exercise.

04

Lean Muscle

Patients commonly report it is easier to build and keep lean muscle, particularly when paired with resistance training.

What Sermorelin Is and How It Works

Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), the signal your hypothalamus sends to your pituitary gland to produce growth hormone. It is a 29-amino acid peptide that matches the active portion of natural GHRH. When injected under the skin, it binds to GHRH receptors in the pituitary and signals the gland to produce and release its own growth hormone.

This is different from synthetic HGH injections, which deliver growth hormone directly and bypass the body's regulatory system. Sermorelin works upstream of that step. The pituitary still decides how much GH to release and when, so GH continues to follow its normal pulsatile pattern, and the feedback loops that limit overproduction stay intact. For that reason sermorelin is generally considered a more conservative approach to supporting GH levels than direct HGH replacement.

Natural GH output declines with age, usually beginning in the thirties. Lower GH is associated with changes in sleep quality, body composition, recovery, and energy. Sermorelin is prescribed off-label by licensed providers to support the body's own GH production in adults with symptoms consistent with that decline. It is typically injected once daily at bedtime to align with the body's largest natural GH pulse, which occurs during deep sleep.

At Precision Telemed, sermorelin is dispensed as a compounded 10mg vial from a licensed 503A pharmacy, after a telehealth evaluation by a licensed provider. Read the clinical evidence on sermorelin for a review of the research behind it.

Who Should Not Use Sermorelin

Sermorelin is not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review your full health history before prescribing, and will not prescribe if any of the following apply.

  • Active cancer or a history of cancer. Growth hormone and IGF-1 can promote cell growth. Anyone with an active malignancy, or a recent history of one, should not use sermorelin.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Sermorelin has not been studied in pregnant or nursing women and is not prescribed in either case.
  • Under 18. Precision Telemed prescribes sermorelin to adults only.
  • Allergy to sermorelin or its components. Including prior reactions to GHRH analogues or to mannitol, a common excipient.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes or significant insulin resistance. GH can raise blood glucose. Patients with poorly controlled blood sugar need that addressed first.
  • Untreated hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormone is needed for GH to act normally. Thyroid status is checked and corrected before starting.
  • Active proliferative diabetic retinopathy, severe sleep apnea, or acute critical illness. GH therapy can worsen these conditions.

Sermorelin can also interact with glucocorticoids, thyroid medication, and some diabetes medications. Tell your provider about every prescription, supplement, and over-the-counter product you take. If anything in your history is unclear, your provider may request labs before making a decision. Not everyone who completes an assessment is approved.

Is Sermorelin FDA Approved?

Sermorelin acetate was approved by the FDA in 1997 under the brand name Geref, for diagnosing and treating growth hormone deficiency in children. The manufacturer withdrew Geref from the market in 2008 for commercial reasons, not for safety concerns. There is currently no FDA-approved, commercially manufactured sermorelin product in the United States.

The sermorelin prescribed through Precision Telemed is a compounded medication, prepared by a state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacy for an individual patient under a provider's prescription. Compounded drugs are not reviewed or approved by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality. They are regulated at the state pharmacy-board level and must be made from pharmaceutical-grade ingredients in a licensed facility.

Sermorelin is prescribed off-label for adult use. That means a licensed provider has determined it is appropriate for your situation based on clinical judgment and the available evidence, not an FDA-approved label. Off-label prescribing is legal and common, but you should understand that distinction before starting. Your provider will discuss it with you during your consultation.

Sermorelin FAQ: Everything You Need to Know

Your first month is just $149.99, then $179.99/mo after that. This rate covers everything: your Sermorelin prescription, monthly vial supply, licensed provider oversight, and free shipping. Traditional clinics and medspas charge $400–$800+/mo for the same therapy because of in-person overhead, office visit fees, and tiered dose pricing. By operating fully via telehealth and partnering directly with Rush Pharmacy, a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy, we cut out the middlemen and pass the savings to you.

Sermorelin therapy prescribed for age-related GH decline and wellness optimization is generally not covered by insurance, as most plans only cover GH treatments for diagnosed deficiency disorders requiring specific lab criteria. However, at $179.99/mo, just $5.99/day, our out-of-pocket cost is significantly lower than traditional clinics. We accept all major credit and debit cards, and many patients use HSA or FSA accounts. There are no surprise bills. You always know exactly what you'll pay.

Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), the signal your hypothalamus naturally sends to your pituitary gland to produce growth hormone. As a 29-amino acid peptide, Sermorelin binds directly to GHRH receptors in the pituitary, triggering your body to produce and release its own natural GH. This is fundamentally different from synthetic HGH injections, which bypass your body's regulatory system. Sermorelin supports the natural GH-axis, so your body produces more GH in its normal pulsatile pattern, preserving the feedback mechanisms that prevent overproduction.

Sermorelin has been used clinically since the 1990s. Because it signals your body to produce its own GH rather than introducing synthetic HGH directly, your natural feedback loops stay intact, which limits the risk of GH excess. Commonly reported side effects are mild and usually transient: injection site redness, flushing, or headache. Your Precision Telemed provider reviews your health history, symptoms, and any labs before deciding whether sermorelin is appropriate for you. Read our full guide to sermorelin side effects.

Synthetic HGH (human growth hormone) directly replaces GH in your body, bypassing the pituitary's regulatory control. This can suppress your body's natural production over time and carries a higher risk of side effects from GH excess. Sermorelin, by contrast, stimulates your pituitary to produce and release GH naturally, maintaining the normal pulsatile rhythm and preserving your body's self-regulating feedback system. Sermorelin is also significantly more affordable and is prescribed off-label by licensed providers for adult GH support.

Results develop progressively. Patients commonly report improved sleep quality first, since GH is predominantly released during deep sleep, followed by steadier energy. Body composition changes, reduced body fat and increased lean muscle, are commonly reported later with consistent use. Most providers evaluate response over a 3–6 month course. Results vary based on age, baseline GH levels, diet, exercise habits, and adherence to the protocol. Read more on how long sermorelin takes to work.

Sermorelin is administered via small subcutaneous injections, similar to insulin injections, typically once daily at bedtime. The bedtime timing is intentional: it aligns with your body's natural GH release cycle during sleep. The needles are very small (insulin-gauge) and most patients report minimal to no discomfort. Your physician will provide clear dosing instructions, and our team is available for support as you get comfortable with the process.

Absolutely not. Every Precision Telemed plan is month-to-month. There are no subscriptions, no long-term contracts, and no cancellation fees. You can pause or stop at any time. Most patients see the best results after 3–6 months of consistent use, but you are never locked in. We believe you should stay because the results are working, not because you're trapped.

Precision Telemed is available in all 50 states. Our network of licensed providers are licensed across the country, and our partner 503A pharmacy, Rush Pharmacy, ships nationwide with temperature-controlled cold-chain delivery. Sermorelin is generally well-tolerated. The most commonly reported side effects include mild injection site redness, temporary flushing, and occasional lightheadedness, particularly when starting treatment. These typically resolve within the first few weeks. Your Precision Telemed physician reviews your full health history before prescribing and monitors your response throughout your program.

Yes. Sermorelin must be kept refrigerated between 36°F and 46°F (2°C–8°C) and protected from light. Do not freeze. Your vial ships cold-chain from our 503A-licensed pharmacy and arrives ready to refrigerate. Your physician will provide specific storage and reconstitution instructions with your prescription.

Yes. Sermorelin is a prescription medication in the United States and must be prescribed by a licensed physician. At Precision Telemed, your licensed provider completes your evaluation via telehealth and writes your prescription the same day if you qualify. It then ships directly from our 503A-licensed pharmacy to your door.
